WRITING TASK 2
You should spend about 40 minutes on this task. Write about the following topic

Some people believe that it is a good idea to share as much information as possible in scientific research, business and the academic world. Others believe that some information is too important or too valuable to be shared freely.

Discuss both these views and give your own opinion. Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

INTRODUCTION
Knowledge is power. Freedom of expression and speech is a crucial part of most modern societies. Within this culture, many people believe that by sharing information freely among all humanity, the future of the world is enhanced. Although some reasons for sharing information freely include rapid development of science and benefit of humanity, I believe it should not be solicited without pay because information needs finance and security.

BODY 1
Scientific breakthroughs can be achieved faster and more when people do not need to have financial backing to acquire the necessary knowledge. There are many smart scientists who do not have the funds to acquire important information to complete their research. However, when the information is free, this is not a barrier for their progress. For instance, information on cancer can be accessed freely on the internet, and this allowed Dr. James Cornick, a poor physician in Ireland, to come up with a pill which helps cure skin cancer and benefits people around the world. Even though in this situation free knowledge is beneficial, it is not true in all cases.

BODY 2
Much information requires payment to be produce and maintain. Also, certain types of information in the wrong hands can be devastating for society. There are many professionals whose jobs are to produce research and new concepts. When they are not paid for this work, they can no longer generate science. In addition, some of this research deals with dangerous fields such as nuclear physics and pharmaceuticals. For instance, last year an act of terror occurred because some criminals were able to learn how to make explosives using free information on the internet. This clearly should not be permissible, and for this reason alone, not all information should be free to access for everyone.

CONCLUSION
In conclusion, distributing information free of charge can help in certain aspects but can also be detrimental to society. Although some believe people should give as much knowledge pro bono as possible, I strongly believe the opposite. People should be careful to underestimate the value and power of knowledge.

WRITING TASK 2
You should spend about 40 minutes on this task. Present a written argument or case to an educated reader with no specialist knowledge of the following topic.

The key to solving environmental problems is for the present generation to sacrifice their convenient way of life for the sake of future generations.

Do you agree or disagree with this statement? Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience
Write at least 250 words.

INTRODUCTION
There is a dire need to save our planet for the future. Humans depend on the environment for survival as it provides our shelter, food and air. In recent times, large populations and abuse of the environment have led to serious concerns for the long-term survival of the human race. Although some believe people must sacrifice our comforts to achieve this goal, I do not agree with this. There are alternative solutions such as changes in behavior and technology which can save nature without giving up our luxuries.

BODY 1
One effective solution to helping nature is to make simple changes in people’s daily habits. There needs to be more attention paid to reducing, reusing and recycling products. For example, people can use the same glass mug for their morning coffee instead of a plastic or paper cup that they throw away each time. Also, individuals can turn off the tap when brushing or shaving. This can save millions of liters of water each year. For example, I always take my plastic water jug with me instead of buying fresh water bottles at the store. This is one of two ways to safeguard the environments without giving up creature comforts.

BODY 2
Using sustainable technology can also solve environment challenges for future generations. There are many ecofriendly technological alternatives to what society uses today which are much less damaging for nature. Some of these technologies include, solar energy, digital publishing and electric transportation. For instance, last year I sold my gas-powered car and converted to electric, so that I decrease my carbon footprint.

CONCLUSION
In conclusion, alterations in human activity and technology are viable interventions for the pressing environmental challenges of today and tomorrow. I completely disagree that making these changes demands giving up people’s convenient way of life. All people must take responsibility to invest in green technology and modify daily routines since we do not inherit the earth from our parents, but we borrow it from our children.

WRITING TASK 2
You should spend no more than 40 minutes on this task. Write about the following topic:

Some people argue that keeping pets is beneficial for longevity while others believe that household animals are not healthy for people to have as companions.

Discuss both sides of the argument and which side you support, and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
You should write at least 250 words.

INTRODUCTION
People around the world have had pets for millennia. Millions of people either buy or adopt household animals such as dogs, cats and birds to keep them company. Some believe this is good practice to live longer lives; however, others argue that having pets at home is unhealthy. Although pets can be a health hazard because they cause disease and are dirty, the benefits of owing pets for a long happy life is more such as companionship and activity.

BODY 1
Certainly, having pets in the home can bring illness to owners and people. Unfortunately, animals do not have the same level of cleanliness as humans, so dogs and cats attract dirt into the home and often carry pathogens such as bacteria, parasites and virus. To cite an example, my niece got terribly ill with tape worms after playing with my dogs last year. Nevertheless, paying attention to keeping pets clean can greatly reduce these health hazards.

BODY 2
On the other hand, pets have some very beneficial influences on their owners such as keeping them company and active. Senior people especially, who have lost many of their friends and loved ones, keep dogs and cats to avoid being lonely. Also, their pets, specifically dogs, require them to stay fit by needing to go for regular walks each day. My grandfather lived until the ripe age of 95. For the last 15 years of his life, he owned a German shepherd, Sparky, and I truly believe that this helped much for my grandpa’s health and positive attitude.

CONCLUSION
In conclusion, pets allow people to experience their social nature but can also be dangerous for health. Although I believe there is some truth to the latter, I support the former because I saw my grandpa live a long, happy life with Sparky. Having a pet at home is great, as long as we keep them clean and healthy they can do the same in turn.
