Where is your hometown? ***TIP 1 – use the question in your answer!!!

My hometown is….

Hometown (definitive paraphrase) = My place of birth and/or the place I grew up.

Well, I was born and I grew up in the city of Victoria, the capital of the province of British Columbia on the west coast of Canada. It is a beautiful garden city of about 300K people.

What do you like to do in your free time?

Whenever I have some time to myself, I like to play with my daughter with legos or some other educational toys, also I enjoy spending time with my friends playing chess or just going for a hike. Last Sunday, I hiked up Mt. Douglas with my good friend Mat, it was not only mentally relaxing but also a good physical workout.

Let’s talk about junk food. 🡪 JUNK FOOD – TIP*** Think about some common words that are associated with “junk food” = unhealthy, fast food obesity, burger, pizza, hot dog, chocolate, candy, chips – salty, full of sugar, lot of cholesterol, cravings, binge eating, tasty

How often do you eat junk food?

  • Qualitative language (subjective/opinion) = Always, often, usually, sometimes, never – 1st
  • Quantitative language (numbers/can be measured) = Three times a week, every day, on Saturdays and Wednesdays – 2nd

I rarely eat junk food, maybe about four times a week, like a chocolate bar on Monday, a burger on Tuesday, french fries on Saturday and 2 liters of strawberry ice cream on Sunday while I watch a movie. I seldom eat junk food because I want to stay fit and healthy.

What is your favorite dessert or snack?

My all time favorite dessert are mochi balls, which is a Japanese sweet, it is a kind of gooey rice ball filled with flavored ice cream, like mango or strawberry ice cream and then often sprinkled with cocoa. I love the texture and taste of this dessert. I’ve been eating it at least a few times each year since I lived in Japan back in 2000.

Why is junk food bad for health? ***TIP – Experiment with your vocabulary and language while practicing and preparing for IELTS – DO NOT use words or idioms, or try to express complex ideas in the official IELTS unless you are 1000% sure that you can do this accurately.

Well in many cases, fast foods contain a lot of calories and fats that the body is not able to use up throughout the day and all of the extra fats and sugars and salts are deposited in the body leading to high blood pressure, obesity and cardiovascular disease. Doctors warn people for these reasons to only eat fast foods once in a blue moon, like every six months at the most.

Where do you buy snacks?

Have people’s snack habits changed in the last 20 years?

If you could open a junk food shop, what would it be?
